“A well crafted game with game managers who clearly love the craft and years of experience behind them, and a cast that is easy to play with and get on with.”
Years of playing and making immersive games have provided us with a deep knowledge of experience and participatory design for games, events, and experiences. We build worlds for you to play in, live in, love in, fight in, and cry in. Ask us about them and what we have in development.
We can host workshops for existing organizations, larps, and events, or for those in the community just starting out. From Larp Jams to helping empower players to demonstrating safety mechanics, we can help players, game runners, and designers both new and experienced.
Like escape rooms, larps and immersive experiences are brilliant teambuilding opportunities, and a chance to get your team out of their comfort zone! Roleplaying can allow people to discover new things about themselves and each other – chat with us about what we can do for you.
“Nicole and Gary run an amazing LARP! I can't wait to see what they will be doing next.”
To promote collaborative play and imagination for everyone in our communities.
A world where larp and interactive experience is recognized as a valuable instrument for education, liberation, and recreation.
Once upon a time, we were live-action roleplayers. In the days of Savage Garden and The Catacombs and late nights at Coffee Hut, we created and played out intense stories and experiences with our friends – but the years took their toll and something magical in play was lost to us. So we stepped back… until fate intervened and we embarked on an adventure to the third run of College of Wizardry. This event and other amazing events in Europe brought us home hoping to find and develop similar interactive experiences in our community. As we discussed our dreams, we realized first, that our communities are isolated from one another and lack plans for long-term sustainability; and second, that we needed to create stories and experiences with and for our unique landscape and culture.
Fair Escape Studios was formed to create the types of experiences we would like to play, examine themes and issues important to our city and country, and connect, build, and support the local and national larp community. Its first official production, Night Watch Toronto: Prophecy in Blood, a trilogy of larps based on Sergei Lukyanenko’s Night Watch series wrapped in May 2018 with a second trilogy beginning in October 2018.
Gary and Nicole Winchester have over forty years of participatory design experience between them. They are best known for modern supernatural stories with dark histories that are deeply embedded in Toronto’s past and culture.
Their involvement in the Toronto larp scene stretches back to Toronto by Night at Savage Garden and Shared Universe ‘Devil’s Glen’ events. Their most recent project, the Night Watch Toronto trilogy ‘Prophecy in Blood’, was extended to a second trilogy by popular demand and starts in October 2018. Both Winchesters have a background in broadcasting with the CBC: Gary in metadata and scheduling, and Nicole in social media content and interactive production. They live in Toronto with their four cats and spend time eating the city’s best food, watching a lot of TV, and living as international larpers of mystery.
Fair Escape Studios is a non-profit collective.
“Simply the best LARP organizers in Canada right now. It’s evident through their artistry in crafting compelling, relevant, and challenging content; their compassion in ensuring fairness, safety, and responsibility in every interaction; and tremendous commitment to inclusion, diversity, and representation.”
“At no point, I felt that I was playing [a] game. I was living the story of the vampire, this child, that needed to step up and become the man that his family wanted him to be.”
